HAPPY BDAY BURTYYYY!
Love you tons and wish I could be there to party it up with you today.

This was from Gasparilla this year, which is why Burt is dressed as a pirate haha!

Itttttt's Friday Friday, gotta get down on Friday!

Sorry, I had to. For some reason, that song ALWAYS gets in my heads on Fridays...

1. I am looking forward to Memorial weekend in South Beach! We are staying at my good friend Katie's place RIGHT on the beach. I am so pumped! Also really looking forward to floating the Guadalupe River in June.

2. Something kind of embarrassing that I still love anyway is prank calling. I know, sooo weird. When one of my BFFs Stacey got married 2 years ago, all of my besties and I shared a hotel room, and we were up until 5 a.m. prank calling random people from college. It just cracks me up SO much. I'm terrible at it, but my friend Carolina is amazing. Never forget those hilarious nights in college where we stayed up late prank calling randoms.

3. My favorite car is a Jeep Wrangler. Always wanted one, but the parents said it was too dangerous. Booooo. It is the perfect car to have in Florida! The first guy I crushed on in high school had one, and I've loved them ever since!

4. If I could pick one type of weather to live with for the rest of my life it would be I don't think I've made it a secret that I love Tampa and it's weather! It's amazing. Winter for Tampa is 45-50 degrees. Perfection. Although, I have also heard San Diego weather is the bomb dot com.

5. My favorite thing to do after a bad/stressful day is go for a run. It's hard to get out of the door, but, once I do, I instantly feel better.

6. This weekend I will be catching up with an old friend tonight and going to see Water for Elephants (finally!!). Laying low the rest of the weekend - probably clean up my place and run some errands I've been putting off for a while.

7. If I were a color, I'd be yellow or blue because, I don't really have a reason other than to me, yellow resembles happiness and blue resembles water. And I love being happy, and I am my happiest when I am near a body of water! I know it doesn't make much sense, does it? haha oh well, i dig it.

El Royal Wedding!

Did anybody wake up to watch the royal wedding!? I recorded the Today Show from 3 to 6 a.m. and was planning to watch it when I woke up at 8 - but I randomly woke up at 5:45 so I decided to turn on the tube before I went bad to bed for a couple hours. Can I just say wow! Kate looked GORGEOUS! I have to admit I fast forwarded to her walking down the aisle. My favorite part: when she and William first meet at the altar. I couldn't make out what he said to her, but I'm sure it was something along the lines of "Holy sh*t you look unbelievable!" It was presh - he was smiling so big, and she seemed like she was so happy but trying to keep her composure at the same time. Loved it! I knew she was going to look amazing, but, dang, homegirl looked goooood. Not a lot of people could pull off that dress silhouette. I love! Glad I woke up and decided to turn on the tube.

In other news, I'm on day 5 of the 21 day challenge and am still going strong! I met some girlfriends for drinks last night, and I think it was my first time at a bar not drinking. It wasn't as uncomfortable as I thought it would be...until I said I was going to take off and go home to eat and then had to explain what I was doing. I guess I'm not a 100% believer in the program yet, so I think it comes out slightly awkward when I try to explain it haha. AND I don't want it to sound like I'm crazy about my weight because, I have to say, I'm pretty content with my weight. I am far from having a Victoria's Secret model's body, but hey, I like beer, so I'm okay with it haha! Anyway, I am glad the news is out and all the gals knows I'll be somewhat M.I.A. the next couple of weeks. Back in action in 15 days! Let the countdown begin...

Lastly, did anyone see Steve Carrell's last episode on the Office last night? It was SOO good! Yes, I cried. I'm a sucker for goodbyes...and Michael's goodbye to Jim and Pam was just so cute. I seriously can't think of a better last episode for him :) I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with Will Ferrel's performance as of yet, but I am hoping it gets better. But if Dwight and Jim leave the show, I am OUT. Sorry, Office.

My current celeb fashion crush...

Okay, so she has kind of always been my fashion crush, but I am really loving Rachel Bilson lately! I think she has the best street style. She always looks so put together...even when walking her dog! I can tell you right now that I will be wearing gym shorts and a T shirt if you ever see me walking Bailey. I look forward to her column in In Style every month and love her advice. I just adore her! Some of my favorite looks...

Love this flowy romantic top here.

This could be my fave - I'm a sucker for shorts & heels, and a cardi too? Def stealing this look!

Very cool blue jacket!

Just walking the dog..no bigs!

Like this Western-flare. Not many peeps could pull this off, but she rocks it!

Wow, so much I love about this outfit...skinnies rolled up with booties, the trench, a bright pink scarf! I die...

Girl looks good glammed up!! Love this interesting twist on a LBD

The voice

Is anyone else SUPER excited for this show airing tonight?

http://img.poptower.com/pic-46755/the-voice-nbc-tv-show.jpg?d=600

I AM! Call me crazy, but I've been over American Idol for a couple years now...I know, I know. I should be a huge fan since I'm a singer...but after Paula left 2 seasons ago, I tried to still watch with Ellen and couldn't get into it. I'm not going to lie - I didn't even bother with this season. Sorry, but Simon made the show. Although he was incredibly harsh at times, he was almost always right. JUST sayin.

Which brings me to The Voice. I think the concept of this show just sounds so cool. Instead of judges, they have "coaches" - Blake Shelton (love), Christina Aguilera (can't say she's not talented!), Cee Lo Green (he's ehh for me, but I like his music) and Adam Levine (balla). So, it starts as a blind competition. The coaches listen to each performer audition but don't get to see them. If they like what they hear, they can choose to coach the contestant. (Side note: if more than one coach chooses the contestant, the contestant has to choose their coach!) Once teams are set, the battle begins, obviously ending with only ONE voice. I just think it sounds like a cool and unique concept as opposed to all of the other typical singing/competition shows on air right now. I'm excited! It's set to record on my DVR in case I can't catch it tonight.

Update on the 21 Day Challenge: day 2 is going well! I like that you eat 5 times during the day...I'm literally never hungry. It's awesome. I've always heard this is the best way to eat for your metabolism. The hardest part so far has been watching the boyfriend eat his own dinners. But I've decided I'll just go upstairs and keep myself busy while he is eating so there is no temptation. He is being very supportive!

Couldn't forget last week's fill-in-the-blank Friday, now could I!?

1. Fridays are my favorite day of the week - who doesn't love Fridays? It's both the end of the work-week and the beginning of the weekend. Added plus: sleeping in on Saturdays. Ahhh, why is it only Monday?

2. Sunny days, my family, happy endings, people in love, beaches and puppies make me terribly happy.

3. Something that inspires me is hearing or reading about people who overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. It reminds me not to get too overwhelmed or worried by little things in my life.

4. If I had the day off today I would be snuggled up in bed watching movies. It is about to storm outside! Can't think of a better way to spend a rainy day...

5. If I had to put a label on my home decor style, I would say my style is hmm, well, nonexistent right now since I live in a tiny studio! But overall, I'd call my style "modern classy chic." I love the modern feel - high ceilings, updated appliances/electronics and granite but also love clean black and whites mixed with bright accents and gorgeous older pieces of furniture.

6. Concerning politics I would say I'm very conservative.

7. I'd like to go to San Diego so I could finally see it! I love everywhere I've been in California, and I've heard such great things about San Diego and have always wanted to visit.

back in action

Wow, I feel like I've been gone for weeks! It's going to take me a looooong time to catch up on all the blogs I missed while I was gone....

My Easter weekend was seriously great. I got SO much sleep - I feel like a new person, and I feel like I've been gone from work for days and days, but really, I only had one day off! Crazy how helpful a detox/relaxing weekend is when you've had some crazy back-to-backs. It was so nice to just be with my mom and not have any plans! We of course couldn't go through the weekend without hitting two of our favorite spots here: The Porch and Mi Cocina. The Porch is great Southern/comfort food, and Mi Cocina is delicious Tex Mex. Aside from that, we just lounged! Watched one of the WORST movies ever. I'm sorry if you saw this and liked it, but you must have been on something because it just made no sense whatsoever. How Do You Know with Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson. All-star cast, right? WRONG. It was honestly terrible. There was no plot, the acting was just plain miserable and the chemistry between the "love triangle" was ridiculous. Awful. And we paid a whopping $14.99 for it as an in-room movie at our hotel. Totally not worth it. I was none too pleased. Anyway, I do not recommend it at all! We stuck to HBO for movies for the rest of the trip and it did not disappoint: Old School, Harry Potter and the Half-Blooded Prince, Spider Man, Shrek, etc. Good times. She left yesterday around noon and it was really sad to see her go. I don't get a lot of one-on-one time with my momma anymore, so I cherish anytime that I do!

I do have one big update - today begins my first day of the My Fit Foods 21 Day Challenge. I have to stick to a meal plan by My Fit Foods for 21 days. This includes no alcohol and no coffee (I know...the no coffee is going to be SO hard). I know some of you are probably asking - why are you doing this? Well, I have an answer for you! I've always wanted to do a cleanse, but I'm VERY picky when it comes to the food/drinks going into my mouth. So, that said, I've never done one of those 3-day or 2-week liquid only cleanses but know they are so good for your body every once in a while. And I can honestly say that I don't think I have EVER in my life (well, since college) taken 21 days off from drinking alcohol. So this is a good time for me to do this since I have not too much going on for the next 3 weeks. Yes, it's going to be hard, but the good news is that the food is actually reallllly good. Everything is cooked in house and made with fresh ingredients. In fact, my breakfast tacos I ate this morning were quite delish! Here is a little info about the program on the Web site:

"Our 21 Day Challenge is designed to restore your natural energy and reset your metabolism while building healthy habits. This is accomplished by detoxifying your body and by supplying 21 straight days of nutrient dense MyFitFood foods. It is for the serious health enthusiast, ready to make a commitment to their health. Our average 21 Day Challenge client loses 8-15 pounds and reports feeling higher levels of energy after as little as 3 days on the program. At My Fit Foods there is a formula for everything we create, which includes weighing every single ounce of lean proteins, measuring the amount of low glycemic carbohydrates, and healthy fats. Our method for preparation insures that your body is always getting the right amount of nutrients that it needs."

I'm not doing this to lose weight, although I wouldn't mind shedding a couple pounds before bathing suit season ;) but doing it more for my health. I definitely don't think I eat terribly, but I know I do things to my body that are no bueno, so I figured this would be a great way to kick-start it back into a healthy natural state! Wish me luck. Not being able to eat dessert is going to be the hardest, but hey, I did finish 40 days of no sweets during Lent. I think I can do 21 more!

Don't you worry, I had a big slice of this last night as my last dessert before the challenge...

I'll let you know how my progress goes! About to have my mid-morning snack right now :)

a delayed fill in the blank friday post!

Sorry I couldn't post on Friday! I was too busy to find a computer, but here is my delayed fill-in-the-blank-friday...

1. My favorite daily responsibility is making coffee. Okay, it's not a responsibility...more of a joy, really. I make up the bed every morning and like doing that...does that count?

2. My least favorite daily responsibility is I HATE putting away laundry. I don't at all mind doing it (in fact, I enjoy it), but the putting away part is just terrible.

3. My favorite cuisine to eat when going out is Tex-Mex. Yes, I can make tacos, and, pretty well may I add; however, there's something about eating out at a Mexi restaurant that is so much better!

4. My favorite cuisine to prepare at home is Italian. I can make a mean balsamic chicken risotto...I also have an amazing recipe by Ina Garten for this Italian Lemon Pepper Chicken. It is so good and so simple.

5. Andy Warhol said that everyone is famous for 15 minutes. My claim to fame is singing the National Anthem at an Orlando Magic basketball game when I was a senior in college. I was in an a cappella group and we were asked to sing it for a game once - it was pretty awesome!

6. If I could have 3 wishes I would wish for a healthy family, a baller house in Capri, Italy and unlimited vacation days.

7. My biggest pet peeve is Trey would have a hay day with this one because I have very little patience! I guess my biggest would be people not paying attention while driving...especially when I'm in a hurry. The drivers in Texas are SOOOO terrible. They cut you off and cause near-accidents all the time. My response? "It's your world, we're alllllllllllllll just livin' in it."

Wedding weekend update

Hi all!

Well, where do I start? This past weekend was LOADS of fun. I don't even know how to explain it. It was sooooo much fun being reunited with my high school friends. We haven't all been together in quite a long time, and it was amazing to see everybody. It was also amazing to see this:

It's been toooooo long since I've seen myself a Florida beach. Unfortunately, the water was too cold (for me!) to jump in, but I did sit by the shore and stick my feet in. Boy, do I miss that Atlantic ocean.

As far as the nuptials, everything went flawlessly! Liz looked absolutely gorgeous both at the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. I just wish I had snapped a couple more photos of her. The only one I took of her and I was blurry. Booooo. Anyway, here are some of my favorites from the weekend:

Rehearsal dinner with my perty friends! Cally, me, Lauren, Priyanka and Caitlin

My very handsome date and I at sunset

Before the wedding...beautiful background, eh? Haha

Before the ceremony

All the handsome boys at the cocktail hour

The grand entrance! Mr. and Mrs. James Peterson!

Reception pic - Me, Priyanka and Lauren

Dallas friends! Love this one

Last pic of the evening...and a good choice to go to bed after this one!

All-in-all, amazing weekend...that flew by FAR too fast. Now I don't have any more weddings to look forward to!! Onto getting excited about Memorial Weekend in South Beach! Hip Hip HOORAY!

Just saw this on Lavender & Lilies and had to post it...this is something I need to read every day :)

Sandy white beaches, here I come!

Sorry I've been a bit M.I.A. this week...sadly, this may be my last post until next week, but I do promise to try and update via my iPhone at least once this weekend!

The beginning of this week was a rough one (see below post) not only due to the tragedy I briefly described on Monday, but also because I was simply exhausted from the weekend. The thought of going to another wedding and participating in yet another rowdy weekend was not exactly at the top of my list. BUT, I am happier than ever to report that I am officially soooooo excited for the wedding this weekend! Just need to brag for un momento about where I'll be heading...

http://pursuitist.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/Ritz-Carlton-Sarasota.jpg

Heaven? Yep, I'd say so. In 24 hours, I'll be en route to my hometown, Tampa, and in less than 48 hours, I'll be sitting on the below beach at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota Beach Club. I don't think I've been this excited since Christmas. SERIOUSLY.

http://www.whatahotel.com/hotels/1314/aa.jpg

Nothing too new to report...ooh, except I got some fantastic trouser jeans at Gap last week and am wearing them for the first time today. I'm in love! They were inexpensive (for jeans) and are so comfortable and polished-looking! I should have taken a pic and posted my O.O.T.D...unfortunately I was running quite late this morning. Oops! Next time...

quick update

Hi lovelies!

I'm still exhausted from the weekend, and one of my best friend's mom passed away early this morning so my day has been a little emotional and crazy, but I wanted to give a very quick update on my weekend.

Wedding weekend was great - the rehearsal dinner at the Dallas Arboretum was beautiful, and the wedding at the Nasher Museum of Art was simply amazing. The weekend was truly perfect. From the weather and the bride's dress to the flowers and the food...everything was just wonderful. I'll be sure to post pictures later this week but hardly have any time becauuuuse I'm leaving on Thursday for yet ANOTHER wedding in Florida! I can't wait - just hard to imagine leaving town in a mere 3 days. Ahhhh.

Yesterday was spent recovering from two extremely fun nights. Today has been spent not wanting to be at work but having a lot on my plate. Ahh, Mondays. I can only imagine how awesome next Monday will feel...

As far as the other emotional thing mentioned above, my heart hurts and goes out to my dear friend and her family right now. I cannot imagine losing my mom and just want to leave with a quote that someone told me when my grandmother passed last year:

For death begins with life's first breath. And life begins at the touch of death.”

Love you so much, Bowen.

I mean, sold??

Happy Frizzity Friday!

Hi friends!

Are you as happy as I am that it's finally FRIDAY!? I swear, I was so off this week. Not that it drew out, but I was so mixed up on my days. Tuesday felt like Wednesday, Wednesday felt like Thursday, etc. I am just happy as a clam that it's finally the weekend - and an exciting one for me! Wedding festivities for Justin & Molly begin tonight at 5 p.m. Woop woop! Anywhoo, onto Fill-in-the-blank-Friday.

{photo using my new favorite iPhone photo app: PictureShow}

1. Something that makes me a great friend is well, I have to admit, I asked one of my besties Laura for help on this one, and her answer made my day! She said I cherish my friends, am a good listener and provide my opinion when it's appropriate - also, I am a giver and a taker. I ask for help but also give help any time it's needed.

2. I am a runner, an easy person to talk to, a lover of good food, wine, the beach and my girlfriends, an avid movie watcher, a pretty good cook, a person that wears her emotions on her sleeve, a people watcher and a family "woman."

3. I am not a dieter, fake, someone who strives to climb the social ladder, a fan of onions or roaches, a great dancer or a phone person.

4. If I had to describe myself in 3 words, they would be outgoing, happy and genuine

5. Something I'm really cheap about is purses...and basics. I'm all about spending money for a statement piece or something that I can get a LOT of use out of, but I just can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a purse since it's something I use every day and will get worn out quickly. And sure, my $7 white T shirt from Target may not last more than a couple months, but, um, it's $7, and I'm going to wear the hell out of it. No biggie if I need to buy a new one when it's dunzo!

6. Something I'm willing to splurge on is a piece of clothing that I absolutely love and can't stop thinking about. This typically refers to dresses because I live in them during the spring/summer/fall. That's 3 out of 4 seasons, folks! Totally worth it haha.

7. I would trade the winter for the summer in a heartbeat. Who wouldn't? Sometimes, I wish I could hibernate...

Show Us Your Bling!

My friend Lindsay and I decided to take my post from yesterday about engagement rings and take it one step further. Soooo, we want you to show us:

1. If you're married, a photo of your ring (and the story behind it..did you help pick it out or was it a surprise)
2. If you're not married, a photo of your dream ring!

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

The great debate

Okay, so I've talked to several friends about this and before you gasp and immediately think I am high-maintenance, superficial or talking about the unspeakable, just know that I am not married and don't plan to be engaged any time soon. I've had this conversation with many of my married and single friends and am interested in seeing what you think about it!

One of my new favorite blogs Live What You Love posed this topic a couple of days ago, so I thought I'd follow her lead.

Enter, the engagement ring...
This is something special that a woman wears for the rest of her life, so it is important that it represents her and that she loves it, right? I certainly think so. Not to mention, every girl has their own opinion on style, cut, etc., and I have no idea how a guy can potentially choose one on his own without knowing what his future wifey likes! There are just so many options...last year, I "helped" my sister-in-law help her best friend's fiance pick one out for her, and I was overwhelmed.

Now, my question is this...do you help your future hubby pick it out? Do you leave him hints or maybe discuss what style you like? Or do you let him pick it out himself and have it be a total surprise? Now, I'm all about the surprise factor, I personally don't want to know it's going to happen this day at this time, but, since I'm not near marriage yet, I've just always been curious about this. Married blogger friends, what did you do? Single and attached blogger friends, what do you think you'll want your future hubby to do?

Trendy Tuesday - Spring Chic

Now that I'm not longer doing the 30 day blog challenge, I need to come up with more exciting things to talk about here in my blog - because, let's face it, my life isn't all that exciting!

Since wedding season is upon us (like I said yesterday, I have two back-to-backs starting this weekend), I decided to give a little taste of what I'll be wearing. This weekend's is in Dallas, and T is a groomsmen, so I'll be wearing a long dress and accessorizing with some fun "me" pieces (are long dresses awkward, or is it just me?). Next weekend's is in oh-so-sunny Sarasota, so I'll be glitzing up a short cocktail dress. I'm sure some of you are shaking your heads in disbelief, but listen, anything goes in Florida. We are casual.Dallas Wedding

It's Monday (sigh) BUT I have so much to look forward to over the next two weeks that I'm not even dragging today! I know, CRAZY. Two back to back weddings...this weekend's is in Dallas and next weekend's is in Florida (on the beach...yes!). So I get to see my momma and pops AND my brother and sister-in-laws new house! Hollllla. So although I am usually pouting on Mondays, today is too good to be true ;) Let's just have this week fly by, please? Thanks...

CRAZY night

No, not really. Not at all, actually! Trey's parents are in town, so we are hanging with them all weekend. I was very productive this morning! Woke up, went to the gym for a spinning and abs class, headed to the bank and Starbucks and home to shower and ready for the day...all before 10 a.m. Pretty proud of myself! Now, we are off to Fort Worth to take his parents to Sundance Square, walk through the stockyards and have lunch at Lonesome Dove...YUM!

Until Monday, friends...Have a good weekend!

Foolish

Thought I would do a funny recap of my top three April Fool's Day pranks I've played in the past...

3.
My sophomore year of college, there was a billboard in Gainesville for a diamond jeweler, and the billboard said "Will you marry me, Jenna?" with a fake person that looked as though they were in the process of "painting" this very important question on the billboard. Well, this was in January, and INSTANTLY I knew this would be the best April Fool's prank to my parents EVER. So I took a photo and saved it for months, just waiting and waiting until April 1 finally rolled around (side note: I had been dating my boyfriend Scotty for a year and a half at the time). I knew the only way I could pull this off was to get my mom involved. So I called her the night before, told her the plan and we pulled it off with flying colors. The plan was to e-mail her the photo and say "Guess what?" and have her flip out, call my dad to the computer and then call my cell phone. It was PERFECTION. He was speechless. He was furious as to why Scotty didn't ask him for my hand in marriage first...asked if I was pregnant and I started dying laughing and came clean. Hahaha great prank. Note: I was only 20 years old at the time! I wish I still had the photo. Priceless.

2.
I like to get people either first thing in the morning on April Fool's or later in the night so they "forget" about the holiday. Anyway, last year, I had slept over at Trey's the night before and when we woke up for work, I put on this stressed face and said, "I really need to talk to you about something...I've been struggling with how to tell you this because things are so amazing right now, but this unbelievable opportunity has fallen in my lap, and I don't quite know what to do." Went on to describe a family friend from Tampa who was in marketing and wanted me to work for her and over a year become a partner in her company, as she wanted to retire within 5 years. I told Trey I loved Dallas and loved him, but this was almost too good to pass up (I'm so mean, aren't I?). Anyway, after about 60 seconds of silence and a couple "wow's," I said APRIL FOOL'S!!!!!!! He wouldn't speak to me for about 10 minutes hahaha. What can I say, I'm good!?

1.
My TOP prank is posted below in number one of my fill-in-the-blank-Friday. My favorte!

What are some of your favorite pranks that you've played on people or people have played on you??

TGIF

1. The best prank I ever pulled was
April Fool's Day is one of my favorite holidays...every year, I target one person to prank and my list is a long one! My FAVORITE was a couple years ago when my mom called me at the end of the day, and I asked her if she had talked to Burton and Shelby today (my brother and sister-in-law who had justttt recently gotten married). She said no, why? I replied, listen I don't want to get involved, but they have something important to tell you so please please call them now. She replied IS SHELBY PREGNANT? And I said, Mom, really, I don't want to ruin anything. And my mom said "OH, SH*T, SHE IS, ISN'T SHE?" Hahahahahah I lost it. It was much funnier in person, but man, my mom cracks me up!

2. The best prank ever pulled on me was I've gotta say, I've never been well-pranked. I'm not tooting my own horn...I'm just usually the prankster!

3. A day without smiling is a day wasted.

4. The most important things in life are spending time with the people you love and the people that make your life better. Life is too short to be wasted on people that don't bring happiness to you :)

5. I dream of one day getting married, having kids and living in a big house with open windows and a huge backyard. I also dream of traveling the world with my hub.

6. I dread waking up in the mornings on the nights when I can't fall asleep. It really is the worst...

7. A discovery I made this week was this is gross, but I am very proud of myself for doing this. My shower was clogging up, and, rather than call a plumber/spend money to fix the drain, I did it myself! Took a wire hanger from my closet and fished out all the nasty hair and muck that was clogging up my drain. NASTY but very satisfying!
