ho ho ho

I saw this survey on a crazy walk on the safe side/moody mama and thought it would be a fun little holiday bit!

1. eggnog or hot chocolate?  hot chocolate for sure... never been much of an eggnog fan.
2. does santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? wraps all those babies. it wouldn't be as fun otherwise!
3. colored lights on tree/house or white? white always. it's classic.
4. do you hang mistletoe? no, but maybe i should.
5. when do you put your decorations up? usually right after thanksgiving, but trey and i got our tree early this year since we will both be out of town for christmas.
6. what is your favorite holiday dish? party potatoes and brandy bubbles.
7. favorite holiday memory as a child?  the short story is when i was 4 years old, we had just finished opening presents, and my dad's friend santa called telling us to go upstairs and look in the closet for our last gift. it was a cute little puppy we named rudy. the longer story is rudy was devilish, and we had to give him back because he ruined lots of stuff in our house. the funny part of the story is when my dad's friend santa called to let us know he needed rudy back at the north pole [for some odd reason i cannot remember], he told us we could go pick out any toy at toys r' us in return. evidently, my brother and i were so excited about toys r' us that we hardly batted an eye when we were told rudy was leaving! pretty hysterical.
8. when and how did you learn the truth about santa? i was in 4th grade, and some stupid boy told me that santa wasn't real....in religion class. RUDE
9. do you open a gift on christmas eve? always! my brother and i always got to pick one gift to open.
10. how do you decorate your christmas tree? white lights and various martha stewart ornaments.
11. snow! love it or dread it? a little bit of both. i hate hate hate to be cold, and when it snows in dallas, i am totally OVER the snow after about a day. but I enjoy it if I am snow-skiing or somewhere up north that is supposed to be cold. texas should be warm like florida!!
12. can you ice skate? i sure can.
13. do you remember your favorite gift? yes - i have two: a swingset when i was 5 and a playhouse for our backyard when i was 7. i loved it.
14. what's the most important thing about the holidays for you? spending quality time with family - it's a luxury i unfortunately don't get on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. time spent with my family at home is invaluable.
15. what is your favorite holiday dessert? pumpkin anything. yummmm
16. what is your favorite holiday tradition? fogarty christmas party on december 23 and cuban christmas on christmas eve
17. what tops your tree? a gold angel i crafted when i was little :)
18. which do you prefer: giving or receiving? giving. i really LOVE picking out gifts for others people...but who doesn't like receiving a gift either!
19. candy canes: yuck or yum? i like them until they get really sticky and gross.
20. favorite christmas movie? white christmas, love actually and the holiday
21. saddest christmas song? does this exist? all christmas songs make me so happy!
22. what is your favorite christmas song? well, i love christmas songs. i could listen to them year round, but then they wouldn't be special. "hard candy christmas" by dolly parton reminds me of my mom. we love that song. "all i want for christmas is you" by mariah is a classic. other favorites: "my grown-up christmas list" by kelly clarkson (reminds me of my sister-in-law), the entire alabama christmas album by alabama - pretty awesome, "breath of heaven" by amy grant and "the man with all the toys" by the beach boys. i told you the list was going to be long, ok?

MERRY ALMOST CHRISTMAS!

christmas crack-a-lackin

i decided to do something a little different for my co-workers and other important people in my life (my hairdresser...duh) for christmas this year. i usually make cookies and baked treats, but i was in the mood to try something else...so i consulted the cooking queen herself, shelby (my sister in law). she has an amazing recipe for white trash - and, no, this is not your normal white trash...it's got a super secret ingredient ;) - but unfortunately couldn't find the recipe/get it from her momma in time.

i remembered every year growing up, my mom made these "christmas oyster crackers," and they were sooo yummy...and so addicting. me, thinking it was a family recipe, asked her for the deets, and she sent me the link to hidden valley ranch's web site. no joke. i was totally shocked! i told her i thought these were just a family tradition, but no...evidently, they are extremely common, and many people make them around christmas time. christmas: 1, jenna: 0

monday blues? not here!

Well, I am officially one lucky gal. I participated in Everyday AEM's Holly Jolly Swap, and I got the BEST Secret Santa ever!! Lori at a crazy walk on the safe side totally hooked me up. Check out this loot!

(apologies for the bedspread in the background - I was too excited and snapped a photo from my phone immediately after I ripped open the package!)

First off, I have wanted a snood/infinity scarf forEVER, and I absolutely LOVE the one she got me!! I love me some purple (bedspread anyone?) and I cannot wait to wear this!! Second, how did Lori know I am addicted to Burt's Bees? I literally have a tube of the lip balm in my purse at all times. I can't even go to bed without putting it on! A HUGE thank you to Lori - she is the bee's knees (pun intended). This totally made my day, and I'm so excited I participated in the Secret Santa Swap - highly recommend doing a blog swap if you've never done one. You get a gift AND you get to know a fun blogger at the same time. What's not to love?

Other than my awesome package I received yesterday, I had a really great weekend! Trey and I exchanged Christmas presents on Friday night since we're not going to be together on Christmas. He got me some new cowboy boots! Woop woop! I am so excited - they are exactly what I was looking for, so he hit a home run! I got him a Kinect for his XBOX and am so excited to play games on it. I've already had my eyes on a Dancing game...as well as Zumba. Hells yeah! The gift that keeps on giving :)

I am counting down the days/hours/minutes until I'm headed home for the holidays (two days, 1 hour, 15 minutes). I cannot wait. I'm off to get some work done, but a HUGE thank you again to Lori. You totally made my day yesterday...and I've already used the BB lip balm and lotion!

1.   My most favorite "little thing" is  coffee on the weekends. I don't drink it much during the week, so I get really excited about the perfect cup of joe on Saturday mornings!

2.   I'd give anything to take a three-week Christmas vacation. Hey, teachers get to do it, what about the rest of us worker bees?

3.  I can't believe  I'll be in sunny Florida in less than a week! Wednesday can NOT come quickly enough!

4. The one thing I'd like to achieve today is  finishing up my work for the week - I was a little behind yesterday since I was out sick on Wednesday, but I'm just about caught up!

5.  The last thing I want to do today is  work. It's so pretty outside! I wish I could just go for a long walk with Bailey Boy.

6.  If I were writing my own blank today, it would say: I'm most excited for Christmas because ____________________ (and my answer would obviously be to be around the people who love me most!)

7.  My favorite candle scent is  Gardenia. I grew up with gardenias in our yard and have always loved the smell. It is magical.

friday's fancies!

I'm linking up with long distance loving this morning for friday's fancies! Here is what I'd LOVE to be wearing for some sparkly holiday parties this Christmas!

sickyyy

Well, with the Saturday I survived through (three Christmas parties...yeesh!) and the weather we've been having in Dallas (30 degrees last week...60/70 and rainy this week?), it was only a matter of days until I caught something. I typically get sick when the seasons change, and on Tuesday night, I knew it was coming. I woke up at 4 a.m. on Wednesday with a pounding soar throat and an achy head. I couldn't get back to sleep, so I watched the Biggest Loser finale, then got myself out of bed to shower and eat something, then I took myself to the doctuh doctuh. Evidently, mucho sickness is going around Dallas right now. No surprises there. So doc hooked me up with a Z Pac and a steroid shot to make me feel better as quickly as possible (I heart you, doc). Don't judge! I have another party on Saturday night AND I'm going home for the holidays next week! I can't be sick for any of that ish.

Well, those steroids kicked in quick because I already felt loads better this morning. I think I caught my sinus infection/cold/whatever-it-is-that-I-always-get-this-time-of-year very early because, had I waited a day or two, methinks I'd be in bad shape. The good news is I got to sleep and watch Christmas movies all day yesterday. It was one of the best days ever. The only thing missing was a snuggle bug named Bailey who would have been the cherry on top. Unfortch, he lives at T's house, and I couldn't bring myself to get out of bed all day to go rescue him. Things will be much easier once Bailey and I are under the same roof :) I mean, look at this angel...

I miss him. I haven't seen him in four days! Oh, the horror.

Anywhoo, I am back at work today and have only one more day of the work week! Then I have short weeks for the next THREE weeks. #Amazeballs. I cannot wait.

these are my confessions

1. I'm completely unmotivated to do any work this week. I have been pinning and blogging for the last 2 days straight. Hey, I've had a crazy couple of months, I deserve this!

2. I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies last night and had two for dinner. I was just having one of those Mondays.

3. As of this afternoon, I am officially finished with my Christmas shopping! It sure is a wonderful feeling.

4. I've been having the itch to move lately. No, not apartments, cities. After the last couple of weeks, I'm having doubts about Dallas. Maybe it will pass?

5. The rest of my vacation days for this "year" are all spoken for (my vacation days restart in August). Excited for my trips (and Baby T's birth!), but also kind of anxious that I don't have any extras just in case.

6. I need some rain boots. It's supposed to rain for the next 4 days. FML.

7. I am officially counting down the days until I'm in Florida for Christmas - as in my 2011 planner has a countdown on each day. Yep, I'm a nerd.

8. I'm so excited to go to dinner with a good friend of mine tomorrow night and catch up! It's been far too long...

9. I often dream about owning my own business, but I have no idea what kind of business I'd start. I don't exactly have any "natural talents." Help?

10. It's been 10 days since my half marathon, and I have been having the itch to go for a run lately. I might have to squeeze one in in the rain this week - I ran 13.1 miles in the FREEZING rain...so I'm hoping I can do 4 or 5, right?

11. I had a dream last night that my bedspread caught on fire because the stove was right next to my bed. What???

12. I bought two books on my Kindle last night: "Through My Eyes" by Tim Tebow and "The Lucky One" by Nicholas Sparks and am so excited to start them. Before you make fun, I just finished "Girl with a Dragon Tattoo," which was reallllly dark and heavy. I need something light and happy now!

That's all, folks.

weekend update

Three parties. One day. Yes, I am alive! But only because I stayed in bed alllll day yesterday. Hey, it was worth it!

Cheers to my first Christmas parties of the season!

one week closer to christmas!

Happy friday, ladies! I am so happy to only have ONE full work week left before I get to leave for Christmas in Florida. Woop woop! Hope everybody had a great week and has a fun weekend planned.

1.   Love is   a choice. Feelings come and go, but love is something that you choose to do with someone each and every day. It may not be easy at all times, but it is absolutely worth it.

2.   Being in love feels like  butterflies in your tummy - it's a great feeling

3.  My favorite quote about love is  "Anything worthwhile is worth fighting for." - Anonymous

4. The most important thing in a relationship is  communication. Communication allows you to fix all of the little issues that arise before they turn into big issues. Plus, you and your partner should always be on the same page.

5.  A "deal breaker" for me in a relationship is   someone who is unfaithful and dishonest.

6.  The way I show love in my relationships is   by spending time doing things that I don't necessarily like but that T loves to do and by helping out around the house and with the dog.

7.  I love  LOVE!

My Christmas Wish List

My Christmas Wish List

My Christmas Wish List by jtuttle42 featuring christian louboutin shoes

Okay, so obviously I won't be receiving any Loubies for Christmas, but a girl can dream, right? These are just a couple of things on my Christmas/Birthday list this year! I've tried to hold out on buying UGGs, but I've decided it's time. I need them. My TUGGs (Target UGGs) just aren't doing it for me anymore. As for the iPhone, well my 3G is at its breaking point. Running a rainy half marathon with it didn't help. Oops! Santa???

tis the season!

I've been in the holiday spirit alllll day long for some reason! Possibly because it's 34 degrees outside. Oh, and the high today, you ask? 37 degrees. Yep, I live in Dallas. Anywhoo, although it may be a little too nippy outside for this Florida chick, I don't mind it too much, so long as I am bundled up and warm. Speaking of which, I need to purchase some gloves. My hands get so cold outside, and pockets just aren't doing it for me. Onto some fun holiday decor I've been pinning today!

personal day

Feeling under the weather today, so I decided to take a sick day. It must have been the 2+ hours I spent running in the freezing rain yesterday morning! YES, I completed my fourth half-marathon and am ecstatic it's over. I beat my best time, which is exciting....but I think I could have gotten under 2 hours if it hadn't been raining. Yuck! Note to self: never run in the rain again.

Hope your Monday is a little less dreary than mine!

i'm a bad blogger

Sorry about my MIA-ness lately. Not only have I been busy, but I just haven't been very motivated to blog this week. I think I'm in a blog rut. Hopefully, I'll be out of it soon. This week wasn't too crazy, but my computer is starting to poop out on me, so I've been trying to figure out what the problem is whilst at the same time trying to get actual work done. This leads me to no free time during the day. Technological issues (especially computer problems) make me SO frustrated. I really wish I understood computers better. I just can't comprehend how they can just stop working properly all of a sudden. Drives me nutso! Anywhoo, for the time being, it's running so I'll stop complaining in case the computer gods are listening and have plans to send a lightning strike down upon my laptop.

My biggest news as of yet is that I am running [another] half marathon on Sunday. It was a little over-ambitious of me, but I thought, what the hay. I've already trained for one, so I might as well try to tackle this one too. Only bad news is that it's supposed to be freezing and possibly rainy on Sunday. Kill me. I can run in the cold, but rainy cold?? No bueno. Please cross your fingers for me that it doesn't rain! I will be forever in you debt. Anywhoo, onto my friday blanks...

1.   The holiday season is   about good food and quality time with family. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday, and I truly can't wait to be home!

2.   Snow makes me  excited for about 2 minutes and then annoyed that it's freezing outside and that nobody in Dallas knows how to drive in snow.

3.  The best comfort food to eat when it's cold out is  tomato soup and a GOOD grilled cheese to dip.

4. Winter is the best time for   cozying up by the fire place and watching a movie with your honey [and your sweet pup - see, Bailey, I'm always thinking about you :) ].

5.  I can hardly wait for  December 21! I'll be in Tampa, and it's been far too long since I've been home - I get withdrawals every 2 months or so...

6.  When it comes to holiday gifts I prefer to  give them. It takes me a long time to decide what to get someone because I like it to be something unexpected that they love but would never buy for themselves.

7.  If I were to rate my excitement about the holiday season on a scale from 1-10, I would say I am at about a  7 or 8. I'll be more excited in the next week or two, but I'm still recovering from a crazy couple of weeks. Thanksgiving was a great break, but I needed like one more week of that haha. Lately, shopping and getting into the holiday spirit is the last thing I want to be doing, but I know as soon as the holiday parties start, I'll be in full Christmas mode!

I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Wowee, sorry for my little 10-day sabbatical friends. I was SLAMMED last week, and I should have planned ahead for some scheduled posts, but I didn't. Lo siento.

Let's see if I can give a quickie update....

Weekend before last was super fun! Trey and I got a Christmas tree -  yes, I know it was a little early, but we aren't going to be in town the week of Christmas, so whateva. We went to a wedding the following night and had a blast! Gorgeous bride, beautiful wedding, delicious food and open bar. Who can complain about that? Last week was hellacious. I had something going on almost every minute of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Our restaurant opening was a huge success on Wednesday, and everybody that I talked to had a great time and was loving the food. I am SO glad it's over! Trey, Bailey and I drove to Houston on Thursday morning to spend Thanksgiving with his family, and it was so much fun. I love Thanksgiving - and I love Thanksgiving food. Turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie?? Heavenly. We were very lazy the rest of the weekend, but hey, sometimes you just need a little R&R weekend.

Some highlights from last week:

1. BABY T IS A GIRL!!!! I am going to be the aunt of a beautiful niece in April! Ecstatic :)

2. I went to see the Muppets movie last week. It was so cute! I remember watching the Muppets growing up and it was so fun to see them back in action. It was surprisingly funny - Jason Segel did an excellent job. He helped to write the screenplay also - betcha didn't know that! He's apparently been a huge Muppets fan since he was a kid.

3. I took Bailey on a 6-mile run in Houston, and he did so great! I think I'm going to have to start running with the little man again.

4. I went to the ORIGINAL Carabba's. Yes, folks, it originated in Houston, Texas, and the original is NOTHING like the chain. It was sooo good, and the food was very authentic. I felt like I was in Italy...okay, maybe Little Italy in New York.

5. I Facetimed for the first time with my family! I got to say hi to everyone on Thanksgiving. It was so nice.

6. It's OFFICIALLY winter in Texas. The temps were in the 30s this morning! Time for those boots, scarves and cozy sweaters. I'm not complaining...yet...

And lastly, since I missed my friday blanks, I'm going to go ahead and fill them in now. Holla!

1.   Waking up at the break of dawn to go shopping is my idea of  Frustration. Black Friday crack-of-dawn shopping just isn't my thing. Props to the people who have the patience to do it, though.

2.   If I were to go shopping today I would be on the hunt for my Christmas gift for T...he's the last one on my gift list!

3.  The best thing I ate on Thursday was  turkey, masked potatoes and wine. My favorite Thanksgiving traditions :)

4. Something I've been learning lately is  that it's okay to let things happen and not worry about the future. Worrying isn't going to get you anywhere.

5.  I cannot start my day without  breakfast or a glass of water? I can't think of an interesting answer here haha.

6.  My nighttime attire consists of   a tank top or T shirt and PJ boxers. I know...SO sexy!

7.  I am looking forward to  Christmas!! I cannot wait to be back in Tampa!

Have a great Monday!

friday blanks

Well, this week officially flew by for me, and I am unbelievably grateful because it was week one of my 8-day hell week. So...only 3 more (long) days to go after today! Side note...who throws a restaurant grand opening party the night before Thanksgiving? Glad I'm not traveling home to Tampa for T-giving this year. Otherwise, I'd have to change my flight and would have some very unhappy parentals. Goodness gracious. Onto my fill in the blanks...

1.   A nervous habit I have is  biting my cuticles/cleaning the dirt from under my nails. I know that sounds super weird, but at least I don't bite my nails anymore?

2.   Something that makes me sad is anything to do with harming animals. I cannot even watch sad animal movies because I cry too much. That Sarah McLaughlin SPCA commercial? Gets me every time. I have to turn the channel. No joke.

3.  Today I am thankful for  my health and the fact that I can run 13.1 miles in foreign terrain, my funny pup who always makes me smile, being in love with my best friend and my amazing parents coming to visit me for less than 48 hours.

4. My favorite room in my house is  well, my whole apartment is one room haha. Ah, the glories of a studio apartment! Since it's the holiday season, and the holidays are about family, I guess I'll say my favorite room in my parent's house is the kitchen because it reminds me of cooking and baking with my momma.

5.  I can't stand  bad drivers. And there are way too many of them in Dallas, Texas. I also can't stand people with egos. Get ova yoself

6.  If I had an extra $100 to spend on whatever I wanted today I would  put it in my "I need a new iPhone" fund. I really do...

7.  The last person I hung out with was  Trey and Bailey (he thinks he's a person?)

back!

I am hugely behind on blogs/blogging this week and it's only going to continue to get worse! Crazy two weeks but I'll try to get on here whenever I have a break.

As you can see from my Saturday post, I officially finished my third half-marathon! Woop woop! And somehow I beat my best time, which is insane because HOLY HILLS. Nashville ain't the easiest place to run, especially when you're used to flat Dallas terrain. They threw in a huge hill on mile 12 too...awesome. Really proud of myself and my friends who ran with me and have to get excited about my next one in 2 weeks! Starting to think this was a little over ambitious, but what the hey.

My parents came in town on Sunday afternoon for a quick 2-day visit, and I SO loved having them here. My momma is truly my best friend, so having her visit for less than 48 hours is a huge tease. I miss her every day :( But really excited to see them over Christmas! Only 35 days until I'll be in Tampa for the holidays. Cannot wait.

Signing off with a hilarious pin I saw this morning. Happy Hump Day!

Saturday, November 12, 2011

I finished!

Well, holy hills! I officially finished my third half marathon in Nashville, Tennessee! It was so much fun, but Lordy my ass is going to be sore for days!! Never ran so many hills in my life. Really happy and proud of myself but glad its over. Time to party! Happy weekend :)

friday friday friday

Happy Friday friends! Sorry I've been MIA this week - it was a crazy one, and in about 20 minutes, I'm heading to the airport for my trip to Nashville for my Half Marathon! Wish me luck!

1.   My favorite new blog of the moment is  Style Me Swanky. So cute!

2.   Something I am thankful for is  my friends, my family and my health.
